Lead Auditor Dr Gavin Jordan from Interface Climbs Ama Dablam

Our intrepid climber and lead auditor Dr Gavin Jordan from Interface climbs Ama Dablam.

Gavin is one of our lead auditors for ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and Chain of Custody (FSC® & PEEC™)

He will be away from Interface for 4 weeks whilst he embarks on his latest adventure.

‘I first saw Ama Dablam 31 years ago, on my first trip to the Himalayas. It was pretty much the first Himalayan peak I saw, as we walked under it on our way up the valley, and it made its usual impression! I wanted to climb it!  The mountain appears steep from all sides and appears pretty impenetrable. Luckily this is not the case, and there is a ridgeline that leads to the upper face providing a reasonably straightforward route – although still involving a rock pitch of Hard Very Severe and some quite steep mixed/ice climbing, sometimes involving short sections of vertical ice. Unlike Everest, this is very much a climbers peak.

Ama Dablam is an elegant and beautiful mountain. The name means ‘mothers necklace’ in the Sherpa language. In terms of climbing, the South West ridge has fixed ropes pretty much in its entirety, meaning that an Alpine style ascent is not possible now. How much this detracts from the climb remains to be seen.’

The latest update is that he has arrived in Kathmandu along with the rest of the crew who will be climbing alongside him. They were busy packing kit bags and getting ready for their departure to Lukla and the beginning of the trekking.

We will keep you up to date with how he is getting along!
