IAF CertSearch update

IAF CertSearch update

The IAF General Assembly has taken place this week, which includes an IAF CertSearch update.

Who are the IAF?

IAF stands for The International Accreditation Forum.

They are responsible for developing a single worldwide program of conformity assessment. This reduces the risk for businesses and its customers by assuring them that the accredited certificate may be relied upon.

UKAS are accredited by IAF. You can also find an official list of Accreditation Bodies here.

Further on from this UKAS have a list of Accredited Certification Bodies listed on their website.

CertSearch

At present this is where the traceability ends. This is where CertSearch comes in.

Once launched it will display a database for Accredited Certifications.

It will mean that clients can check the validity of your certificate at any time.

If you currently hold a non-UKAS certification then you will not appear within this database.

Non-UKAS certification

If you currently hold a non-UKAS certificate you may be asking why you will not appear within the IAF CertSearch.

Firstly non-UKAS Certification Bodies are not accredited by a recognised Accreditation Body.

This means that the competency of the Certification Body is not known. Therefore the certificate may not meet the requirements which are met by Accredited Certification Bodies.

UKAS have also published a brochure on this subject called ‘Why leave your certification to chance?’
