Together We Are FSC® Zero Hunger
How do forests bring food to the table?
Firstly if we are to nourish today’s 815 million hungry and the additional 2 billion people expected by 2050. A fundamental change in the global food and agriculture system is needed.
In the developing world, millions of households depend on food and also fodder from the forests to supplement their diets and those of their livestock.
In addition to this, forests often provide important ecosystem services. This also supports the water cycle and helps to sustain healthy agricultural sectors.
Furthermore, deforestation and degradation can negatively impact on this. Responsible management as set out by the requirements of FSC® also plays a key role in mitigating global hunger.
