The Environmental Management Guidance Standard has now been published

The recent revision from the ISO 14001:2004 standard to ISO 14001:2015 (Environmental Management Guidance) standard now sees the new ISO 14004 revision.

ISO 14004:2004 is an EMS guidance standard. It offers guidance on the implementation, maintenance, and installation of an environmental management system. It also provides guidance on the coordination of an EMS with other management systems. ISO 14004:2004 was aligned with ISO 14001:2004, thus, with the revision of ISO 14001, there needed to be a revision of ISO 14004. The EMS guidance standard is now ISO 14001:2016 and is aligned to the new ISO 14001:2015.

Environmental issues are very topical at present and are growing in importance rapidly. An environmental management system is often a requirement for tender or a pre-requisite for proposal questionnaires. An EMS helps businesses measure, and more importantly, manage, their environmental impact. It also demonstrates environmental credibility to customers and suppliers.

“The new version of ISO 14004 provides organisations with further details and information in relation to the new ISO 14001:2015. Some of the changes include a focus on protecting the environment, environmental performance, life-cycle perspective, leadership and strategic environmental management.” – Dr Anne-Marie Warris, Chair of ISO TC 207/SC1
