Reclaiming Quality Car Parts

Reclaiming Quality Car Parts: The Path to Sustainability and a Greener Future

As we stand on the precipice of a new era, the push for sustainability and achieving carbon net zero targets has never been greater. The automobile industry, one of the most significant contributors to global pollution, is therefore now pivoting towards a more sustainable approach. One of the key strategies in this transformation is reclaiming quality car parts for reuse, repair, and remanufacture.

Interface and VRA collaboration

In 2020, Interface, a leader in sustainability auditing, began a collaboration with the VRA on their certification scheme. This partnership was born out of a shared vision to clean up the industry and highlight the importance of the vehicle salvage and recycling industry in fostering a circular economy.

VRA Certification

VRA’s certification scheme plays a crucial role in promoting sustainability within the industry. It’s not just about reducing waste; it’s about creating an environment where every component can be reused or recycled.

Creating a sustainable future

Since its inception, the certification scheme has made significant strides. All the industry leaders are now certified, demonstrating their commitment to cleaning up the industry and creating a sustainable future. This achievement signifies a major shift in the industry’s attitude and approach towards environmental responsibility.

Auditor Training Day

However, as the certification scheme evolved, Interface identified the need to enhance their capacity offer. To meet this demand, they conducted an auditor training day at ASM Auto Recycling in Thame, bringing a number of new auditors online.

E2E

Interface also maintains a close relationship with e2e and its members, continuously reporting back on member performance. This ongoing dialogue helps drive continuous improvement within the industry, ensuring that sustainability remains at the forefront of operations.

EU Environmental Rules

The importance of this certification scheme is further underscored by impending EU environmental rules. These rules mandate that most End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV) parts and materials must be reused or recycled. As these rules are likely to become EU Legislation soon, the certification scheme’s relevance and importance will only continue to grow.
